Caffeine On Wheels: Introducing the Bike Café
All over the nation, foodies line up to get fusion tacos, specialty burgers, and other inventive meals from the "restaurants on wheels." Of course, the experience of eating a new take on the grilled cheese sandwich from a food truck isn't just about the food, it's about exploring something new or the satisfaction felt when you find the truck that has exactly what you want.
Bike cafés in Argentina bring this same spectacular feeling to the streets. These traveling baristas hop on bicycles to bring locals and visitors their early morning grind or their mid-afternoon pick-me-up via "pop-up coffee stands" complete with a perfect Argentine roast and delicious "pastelitos." (In case you didn’t know, pastelitos are the perfect snack for morning, day, or night: a flaky pastry filled with guava, cheesy, or meaty goodness.) This straight-to-your-hand way of delivery is quickly becoming the norm in the country.
We think it's about time the idea of bike cafés is exported to the States! Imagine walking through the city and having the convenience of pop-up coffee shops right on the sidewalk or street corner. Breakfast or mid-day snack along with a cup of joe to go with a beautiful day. Perhaps it'll be the perfect reason and excuse to have meetings in the park, too… Not such a bad idea!
Already seeing bike cafés in your area? Take a photo and post it to our Facebook page to spread the word! We'd love to witness the trend grow!
